Ugh!
May 2, 2007
Laptop crashed. Hard disk fried. Two new poems, drafted this morning between 3 and 5:30 in a rush of inspiration and hard work lost just as they were about to go to backup disk. Didn’t have time to reconstruct ‘em on the legal pad, had to go to work, so they’re substantially lost.
That sound you heard at 5:30 am Eastern Standard Time was indeed me banging my head on, inter alia, the keyboard, the desk, the wall, the floor…
Didn’t loose too many of the old poems, however, because I not only have various backup disks about, but I also have archives saved online at various sites. Still, it’s a pain. Oh, suffering, c’est moi!
Sorry to hear that. But at least you can claim the poems were your lost masterpieces – the ones that got away.
Even if “the hard-drive crash from Porlock” doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, somehow.
